"Do a burlesque dancer's pasties obey the laws of physics? As the culmination of an old-school striptease number, pasties seemingly defy gravity — and the collective wishes of the men in the audience — to cling to a dancer's naughty bits. The most adroit burlesque performer can even make her pasties' tassels spin propeller-style in opposite directions. If pasty-power could only be harnessed, it could solve our nation's renewable energy needs... The way the Syrens joke around, they could just as easily be a quilting bee or ladies bowling league, except for the public nudity."

"Giving a little tit for tat, Syrens of the South jolt the spirit of burlesque across the Eyedrum stage in their fourth annual Toys for Tots toy drive. Showgirl Savannah Rouge, sultry songbird La La Luscious, master of puppet Tim Monteith, and a multitude of busty dancers flaunt holiday cheer this year. With an extraordinary display of ta-tas and pasties, there will be more than one reason to make Santa’s naughty list."
-Simone Jameson Creative Loafing Atlanta Published 12.15.10 "Tits for Toys for Tots Holiday Spectacular: Though this annual event helps a good cause, the Syrens of the South clearly know what their fans truly come to see given the appropriately inappropriate event name. The night will be chock full of bosomy fun with performances by such well-rounded performers as Katherine Lashe, Dixie D’lilah D’lite and Ruby Redmayne. Alongside the stripteases will be bellydancers, illusionists, puppeteers and a gender-bending drag king performance by Devin Liquor." -Johnathan Williams Creative Loafing Atlanta Published 12.02.10 "with the maiden voyage of the Mechanical Masquerade on Jan. 16, 2010, the voluptuous ladies of Syrens of the South burlesque troupe offer a stage for local and national costumers, dancers, vendors and other industrious types to showcase their talents on a semi-monthly basis... Event hosts Syrens of the South are no strangers to entertaining Atlantans in retro fashion. From opening for Unknown Hinson to teaching burlesque classes and appearing on the Travel Channel, the troupe is known for its traditional take on the art of burlesque." -Johnathan Williams (Metromix.com) Published 01.15.10 "[Syrens of the South]'s burlesque dance classes are for all shapes and sizes of women, and are a great way to gain confidence, feel attractive again, and for women to become healthy, positive role models for their children and other women." -Abi Berwager (Ruckus Magazine) Published Dec 09/Jan 10 Volume 1 Issue 2 "The SYRENS OF THE SOUTH have come a long way from their debut at the Highland Inn Ballroom and Lounge. They've quickly become one of Atlanta's more popular burlesque troupes, enforcing healthy female body self-image with their plus-size performers – not all, but most – and fondness for the striptease songs of the good old days." -David Lee Simmons (Creative Loafing Atlanta) Published 08.20.08 “…the show goes from boisterous to sultry to bawdy and does it all with a wink and a smile.” -Debbie Michaud (Creative Loafing Atlanta) Published: 02.13.08 “The (show) features Atlanta's twosome the Syrens of the South (see this week's Culture Surfing) as well as burlesque artists from across the Southeast. Simply hearing the introductions of such performers as "Tits McGee," "Hepcat Mike," "Dickie Van Dyke" and "Barbalicious" might be worth the price of admission.” -Curt Holman (Creative Loafing Atlanta) Published 08.15.07 |
