Saturday Night is the main event: The Southern Fried Burlesque Pageant has performers competing for Best Duet, Best Variety, and the first ever Southern Fried Burlesque Queen!  After the awards ceremony, you can let your hair down at the Dirty South Showcase with performers from all over the Southeast, headlined by The “Godfather” of Atlanta Burlesque, Torchy Taboo!

There will be additional panels, events, and classes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for all skill levels.  Whether you want to learn from the beginning or fine tune your craft, this festival will have activities for all levels and aspects of burlesque, including How to Make Headdresses, How to Be a Pin-up Model, Make-up and Hair tutorials, Burlesque Business and Marketing classes, MC/Hosting instruction, and Dance classes from seasoned burlesque performers, teachers, and legends, so you can leave the festival with all the tools you need to be the next Burlesque Superstar!  Don’t worry guys -all genders are welcome to attend classes!

Every year the best burlesque performers in the country gather together the first weekend in June to attend the annual Burlesque Hall of Fame Reunion Weekend and Reigning Queen of Burlesque Pageant! How do they get there? How are the performers picked?

Performers from all over the world dust off their pasties, put on their best dress and take it off in front of a camera to submit to this event! March 13, 2010 at Little Tree Studios, we will be filming for many of the Atlanta performers to give them a chance to shine in Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada! Tickets sales will go to pay for the video footage and editing so even if you can't make it buying a ticket is like making a donation to these girls to help their dreams come true!

Not only will the videos be used to submit to the Burlesque Hall of Fame, but also to New York Burlesque Fest, Texas Burlesque Fest, New Orleans Burlesque Fest, Paris, Amsterdam, etc... so this is an opportunity to help spred the Atlanta love all over the country, and in some cases, THE WORLD!

Speaking of the World. Atlanta's very own, The Lady, Miss Vagina Jenkins has been accepted to perform in the London Burlesque Festival in April and needs help raising some dough to get there. We will be having a raffle at the end of the 7pm and 10pm shows to help raise money for this very special lady to send her across the pond to show off the amazingness of Atlanta burlesque like a missionary going to a 3rd world country.

So come on down and support your local burlesque performers and help them shine all across the country and the world!

Burlesque is the art of the striptease, with a focus on the tease. The performers occasionally strip to pasties, but there is no nudity in any of our productions. This show is a revival of an American art form that has become an international movement.

Come one come all to the Syrens of the South’s Mechanical Masquerade of Marvels and Merriment! Here now marks the first in the series of semi-monthly events brought to you by the marvellous mistresses of petticoats, frills, and thrills – the Syrens of the South. Come enjoy this maiden voyage away from the standard burlesques and enter into a world of neo-Victorian anachronistic characters. An evening filled with brass, leather, steam and SCIENCE! Modelled after the fantastic sub-genre of fiction, fashion, and music often called Steampunk or Victoriana. This event series promises to highlight fine vendors, entertaining amusements, and music that would make Jules Verne proud.

With song selections playing through the night by the illustrious host of the evening, the notorious Doctor Q, the evening promises to cater to all types from any time period. For those with finer tastes, there will be performances sprinkled through the evening to delight and defy the sharpest of imagination. And the lords and ladies may even wish to peruse the displays by the artists, vendors, and sponsors such as Anachrocon, the Clockwork Cabaret, Extraordinary Contraptions, Gentlemen’s Emporium, Penny Dreadful Productions and more.

So hop upon your horseless carriage, time travelling machine, airship, or otherwise and be sure to attend the festivities to dance, shop, and enjoy the cavalcade of clockworks and carousing in your finest threads or scavenged and assembled attire. And remember, the finest threads have a chance of winning our costume contest with prizes donated by Abney Park, Cherie Priest and more!

Each student will be going home with their very own pasties!

2pm-4pm “The Art, Architecture and History of Hosiery with Kisa von Teasa”
Many of us go to a random store and grab some hose with a mix of apathy and dread. Then, there are people that look and feel each and every pair. Testing for stretch, texture and opacity. They know the secret of a good weapon when they see one. Let Kisa von Teasa teach you the art of stocking removal. This can add quite the dramatic element to any performance. Do you want it short and snappy or do you savor a slow burn? Whatever you do, don’t underestimate this skill in the Burlesque Performer’s repertoire. In this class Kisa von Teasa will show you exactly how a pair a thigh-hi’s can be a tool of deadly mesmerism.  You will need: At least two pair of either Thigh-Hi’s or Garter hose. Do not bring your favourite as you may rip them in practice. Pumps without straps, so that you can easily slip them on and off, Garter Belt, Clothing that you can have easy access to said garter belt and hose, pretty Burly-Q panties, tap pants, and/or a skirt will do.  (There will be hosiery for sale at the class as well)

Jan 24
noon-2pm "Give 'Em Some! With Ursula Undress"

We all know that, like the rhinestone, the art of burlesque has many facets. Not only do you need to master the art of taking it off, costuming, and hair and make-up, you also need to have some real stage presence and audience interaction. This class will help you get over your fear of being on stage, get comfortable with eye contact, and warm you up with basic acting techniques - all guaranteed to bring out your inner Tigress...or Goddess, or sex kitten, or saucy wench....the list goes on and on.  Please wear clothes that you can really move and stretch in.

2pm-4pm “Move to the Music with Ursula Undress”
This basic movement class is a dance class for dancers and non-dancers alike. Learn how to travel across stage, work with your body, and emphasize what you've got. Special attention is paid to improvising with music and adding spice to your number through "pow" moves. Please wear clothes to dance in and either the shoes you are performing in, or something similar.

So much to catch up on....

We got a great review on Examiner.com from the show we did for Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge, here's a segment:

"Syrens of the South featured several amazing burlesque performers, and they also threw in a magic show by a handsome vampire magician for the ladies!  Hostess for Syrens of the South Katherine Lashe was also a pleasure to watch.  Her mix of humor, allure, and sarcasm resembled the lounge lizards of the past, but she brought the style back to life.

My favorite performance throughout the night was Renea' LeRoux.  She did burlesque as the Queen of Hearts, in a beautiful costume she designed herself.  Not only is the buxom beauty nice to look at, but she gives these coy and almost evil glances that really add to her performance.  She's definitely one to look out for!"

This past weekend we opened for Unknown Hinson at Variety Playhouse and it was an amazing experience.  Coming up:  We have two shows on Halloween so check out the calendar for all the details!  One from 6-11 for you early types and one from 10-dawn for you late night types!

Also, there's a poll for the top 50 burlesque performers and you can nominate any five performers, MCs, teachers, etc.... and we'd love to see some local Atlanta talent in that top 50!  Katherine Lashe, Talloolah Love, Renea'le Roux, Ursula Undress, D'lilah D'lite, Rosie Palms, John Carney...they're all great choices from the Syrens of the South family.
